Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

All of these items are addressed in the Team Handbook.  Item noted here are for those families that are deciding to make a team investment and commitment.

How often are the meets?

The summer swim meet season is 6 weeks, with meets every Saturday, beginning in May.  Your swimmer may also qualify for additional swim meets based on their best times in individual events during the previous swim meets. These additional meets bring together the top swimmers in Northwest Harris County to compete against one another and are Invitational; additional fees are associated for participating in these invitationals meets.

How long does a swim meet last?

Swimmers typically arrive by 7:00 for warm-ups. The actual meet begins at 8:30am and goes until 2pm.  Factors affecting the length of a swim meet are weather conditions, swimmers waiting to swim their events, and volunteer participation. Without volunteers, the meet cannot go on in a timely manner.

Is my child a good enough swimmer to be on a swim team?

Your swimmer must be able to swim across the length of the pool (25 meters). They may pause on the lane rope if needed, but they cannot push themselves down the pool by using the ropes.

It is important to understand our refund policy on this matter (see below). More information can be found on these topics in the swimmers handbook.

What is the Family Volunteer Commitment?

Families are expected to fulfill their Volunteer Commitment. Without volunteers the swim meet can not occur or will not be timely completed.   Each family will need to supply a volunteer deposit fee of $375 on personal check to be held by the Board until the end of Season Banquet.  Volunteer checks are returned at the Banquet Dinner at the end of the season for all families that completed the season without any issues and fulfilled volunteer assignments. If a family was not able to complete the season and volunteer requirements checks will be deposited as donation to the Team. The number of family volunteer points required each season is based on the number of families on the team; there are more volunteers positions needed at home meets than away meets.
